Injury Care "For the Mat"

This introductory class is held in gyms and training centers and is geared for the people that make these places their home away from home.  

Whether you use a yoga mat, jiu jitsu mat, bouldering pad, sprung floor - whatever it is you train with or on - Jake teaches simple and effective techniques that integrate the best of ancient and modern to resolve common injuries that come up while 'on the mat.'

All classes include lecture and practice with plenty of discussion on relevant anatomy.


Classes and Workshops Include:

  1. Understanding Common Gym Injuries
    This class introduces some of the most common injuries seen in movement gyms, martial arts schools, and yoga studios.  Sprains, strains, breaks, dislocations, contusions, and overuse syndromes will be covered.  Class will be divided up between functional anatomy lecture and hands-on learning time.

  2. Simple Tissue Realignment Techniques
    This class introduces basic soft-tissue therapy techniques that are useful for preventing injuries, reducing pain, and improving performance.  This is designed specifically for trainers, coaches, and teachers who want to take care of their students and teams.

  3. "Revival Techniques"*
    This class introduces Japanese and Chinese "revival techniques" that are used to treat structural misalignments, joint dislocations, unconsciousness, and severe injuries related to blows and falls.  Lecture includes thorough discussion of joint structures and movement, head and neck trauma, pathokinesiology, with plenty of time for hands on practice.

  4. Make Your Own "Herbal Ice"
    This practical class introduces one of China's most valuable injury formulas.  Designed for early stage hot injuries that are characterized by redness, swelling, and pain.

*Because of the invasive nature of the "Revival Techniques" class, this option is only available to Licensed Acupuncturists, Medical Doctors, Physical Therapists, and Chiropractors.  Prerequisites: Vital Center's Tuina Level I and II.
